About API

Automated Processes, Inc. (API) has been based in Jessup, Maryland since its founding in 1969. The company was formed by a group of engineers and musicians, including co-founder Saul Walker, who shared a vision to build the highest-quality professional audio gear and back it with strong customer service. In 1999, Larry Droppa of Audio Toys, Inc. acquired API and has served as president since, describing himself as caretaker of the brand. API designs and manufactures analog recording equipment in its Maryland facility. The product line spans large-format consoles (Legacy AXS, Vision, 1608-II, 2448, THE BOX), 500 and 200 Series modules (preamps such as the 512c and 312, equalizers like the 550A, compressors including the 2500+ and 525A), rackmount processors, the TranZformer guitar and bass pedals, the MC531 monitor controller, and the ASM164 summing mixer. The company pioneered the 500 Series modular format in 1969 and developed the 2520 discrete op-amp and the first voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) in 1974. API's equipment is used in professional recording studios, broadcast facilities, and film and television scoring stages. Historic installations include consoles at Sunset Sound, Apostolic Studios, Sound Ideas, Green Street, Blackbird Studio (96-channel Legacy Plus), and Galaxy Studios (80-channel Vision). Users range from individual engineers to facilities such as Perception Records and composer William Anderson of Anderson Scores.
