Blue Sky Solar Co

About Blue Sky Solar Co

Blue Sky Solar Co was founded in 2012 in Dubuque, Iowa. The company is led by President Barney Grobstick, who brings over three decades of electrical industry experience, including nine years in solar. Grobstick grew a prior electrical contracting business from nine journeymen to one of the Midwest’s largest electrical contractors before steering Blue Sky Solar Co. The firm provides end-to-end solar solutions: system design by a NABCEP‑certified professional, procurement of vetted components, construction and installation, project financing through power purchase agreements or leases, and ongoing service, maintenance, and monitoring. Since inception, crews have completed more than 500 installations totaling over 50 megawatts across commercial, residential, municipal, agricultural, academic, and utility‑scale projects. The team also installs battery storage and EV charging systems and integrates SCADA solutions. Customers span the commercial, residential, municipal, agricultural, academic, and utility sectors. The company has developed projects for farms leveraging USDA grants, schools using direct-pay tax credits, and large-scale utility installations. It also structures PPAs and lease options for clients without upfront capital. Blue Sky Solar Co emphasizes community impact and industry advancement. Its mission stresses innovation, education on new technology and incentives, and leaving each community better than it was found. The leadership team includes a licensed master electrician with NABCEP certification, a construction manager with 15 years of experience, and a policy expert with a banking background.
