About Boom Island Woodworking
Boom Island Woodworking operates from the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The company was founded in 2019 by Eddie Phillips, a mechanical engineer with a minor in product design, who initially restarted woodworking as a creative outlet. After building a brand and customer base, Phillips left the corporate world in 2022 to pursue furniture making full time. The shop produces fine furniture, custom designs, and functional wood art using sustainably sourced hardwoods and traditional joinery techniques. Each piece is built as a one-of-a-kind commission or a signature design, emphasizing heirloom-quality construction meant to last generations. The primary customers are residential clients seeking custom furniture for their homes — dining tables, beds, and other pieces that anchor living spaces. The custom process is collaborative, guiding clients from concept through wood species selection, dimensions, finishes, and design details. Regular email updates keep clients informed throughout the build. Phillips describes a philosophy rooted in craftsmanship, authenticity, and a deep connection to materials. The goal is to create objects that carry timeless beauty and evoke emotion, going beyond mere utility to become lasting pieces of functional art.
