Brownell Furniture

About Brownell Furniture

Brownell Furniture operates from Cincinnati, Ohio, where it creates collectible sculptural furniture and objects. The studio emerged from a lifelong fascination with geology, biology, and weathered landscapes, though a specific founding year and ownership structure are not publicly disclosed. The company produces limited-run pieces that blur the line between furniture and sculpture, using rare and storied woods such as ancient bog oak, fumed oak, teak, and bubinga. Grain, color, texture, and age are treated as active design elements, revealed through form, light, surface, and composition rather than concealed. Production scales are intentionally small, with each collection guided by three evolving form languages. Brownell Furniture distinguishes itself through an ongoing investigation called Material Memory, which examines how living and non-living forms can be reimagined through furniture, sculpture, lighting, and spatial objects. The three design languages—Cairn, Morphic, and Lithic—provide a framework for exploring balance, organic growth, and geological repetition, respectively.
