A New Jersey native, Batura earned a forestry degree from Virginia Tech and spent five years as a forester with a pulp and lumber company in coastal North Carolina before launching his own shop in Raleigh. He further refined his craft at the Penland School of Crafts, studying under woodworking masters Tage Frid, Doug Sigler, and Skip Johnson. The shop produces fine furniture, custom cabinetry, and decorative items for residential and commercial clients. Batura personally harvests, mills, and dries standing, fallen, or rotting timber sourced from Pennsylvania to South Carolina, then slices selected sections into veneer for bookmatched panels. The process emphasizes revealing vibrant colors, figured grains, and mineral blemishes in species such as walnut, maple, cherry, and mahogany, finished with clear durable coatings. Batura’s work has been exhibited with the Carolina Designer Craftsman Guild and earned awards at Raleigh’s Artsplosure, the Durham Arts Council Centerfest, and the Boylan Heights Artwalk. Batura describes his approach as a labor of love, favoring woods that “speak a little louder” and combining artistic vision with functional craftsmanship. The business was founded on the principle that working with hands, head, and heart elevates woodworking to art.
