About DEMPSEY WOOD PRODUCTS, INC
Dempsey Wood Products was founded in 1988 in Rowesville, South Carolina, by Ronny Dempsey, who branched out from a multi-generation sawmilling family. The family’s roots in the industry trace back to 1940 when Paul L. Dean operated mobile sawmills, later joined by his son Robert Dean and, in the 1950s, Parker Dempsey after his Air Force service. The family expanded to multiple sawmills and a chip mill supplying the paper industry, eventually attracting Stone Container, which acquired the business in the 1980s. Ronny Dempsey, a Clemson graduate and Parker’s son, then started Dempsey Wood Products, continuing a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated sawmill legacy with his own son, Parker Dempsey, now involved. The company produces kiln-dried Southern Yellow Pine lumber and pallet lumber, operating sawmilling, chip milling, and optimized production lines that use every part of the log to minimize waste. While specific facility size and headcount are not disclosed, the operation emphasizes high-grade pine, environmental impact reduction, and consistent on-time delivery. Dempsey serves the timber processing, paper, and pallet manufacturing industries, among others. Its chip mill historically supplied Stone Container, a major paper mill, and its pallet lumber feeds the pallet industry. The company also lists timber processing, industry marketing, and industry advocacy as served sectors. The firm differentiates itself through core values of accountability, unity, and efficiency, a faith-based foundation, and a commitment to building a lasting team. It stresses quality craftsmanship, renewable resource utilization, and getting products right and delivered on time.
