About Elwood Design Co. | Custom Furniture: Dining Tables, Coffee Tables, Epoxy Furniture and more.
Elwood Design Co. operates from a historic shop building at 221 West Santa Fe Avenue in Fullerton, California. The business traces its roots to a hobby Joel Elwood began more than twelve years ago, but it became a full-time venture in 2021 when he left his previous career. Elwood remains the owner and leads a dedicated team of five craftspeople. The company designs and builds custom furniture, home goods, and art pieces using solid hardwoods such as walnut, white oak, and claro walnut, often combined with colored epoxy resin. Production is primarily in-house, covering woodworking, joinery, and epoxy finishing, while specialized metalwork, CNC machining, leatherwork, and upholstery are sourced through a network of local partners. The shop handles projects ranging from single residential pieces to large-scale hospitality orders. Elwood Design serves both residential and commercial clients, including restaurants, coffee shops, and event venues. The firm regularly collaborates with interior designers, architects, and builders, offering a 10 percent trade discount. Notable projects include custom walnut tables and a mobile planter box for RSVP Event Space, a podcast studio desk for Concordia University, and various pieces for interior designer Grace Kim. Elwood founded the company to create heirloom-quality furniture that avoids mass-production shortcuts, emphasizing natural material character and one-of-a-kind design shaped by both maker and owner. The goal is to produce pieces that inspire joy, spark conversation, and endure across generations.
