About Exact Solar
Exact Solar was founded in 2005 in Newtown, Pennsylvania by Mark Bortman and his wife Dara. The idea originated from a 2004 renewable energy workshop near Philadelphia and a subsequent year in Costa Rica where they assisted solar pioneer Bruce Carey with solar thermal pool heating installations. Upon returning, they launched a solar pool heating business that later expanded into photovoltaic systems. In 2021, the founders transferred ownership to Doug Edwards, who continues to operate the company as a locally owned and operated business. The company designs and installs photovoltaic solar systems for residential and commercial customers across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and provides ongoing maintenance and repair services for existing installations. All work is performed by an in-house team of approximately 52 full-time employees, covering sales, engineering, project management, installation, and service. Operations are based at an office and warehouse on Walker Lane in Newtown. Exact Solar serves homeowners, businesses, non-profit organizations, and municipal entities throughout eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Notable projects include installations for Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North Wales, and West Rockhill Township in Bucks County. The company emphasizes an educational, pressure-free sales approach and a commitment to honest service and reliable installations. It distinguishes itself through community engagement, including workforce development programs, youth education on solar energy, and advocacy for equitable energy policies.
