Florida School of Woodwork LLC

About Florida School of Woodwork LLC

Florida School of Woodwork operates from a restored 1920s industrial building in Tampa, Florida. Executive Director Kate Swann founded the program in 2004 to serve local aspiring woodworkers, beginning as a one-on-one instruction program in a 600-square-foot shop under the Franklin St Fine Woodwork banner. The school relocated to its current location in 2010 and has since expanded to offer year-round classes drawing students from across the United States and abroad. The school provides hands-on woodworking education covering furniture making, carving, joinery, turning, finishing, and cabinetmaking. Courses range from weekend workshops to week-long intensives, with one-on-one sessions available for customized scheduling. Instruction is led by active professional woodworkers, furniture makers, turners, and carvers from the United States, England, and Canada. Class sizes are kept small to allow personalized guidance and demonstration. Participants include hobbyists, amateurs, and professional woodworkers with diverse backgrounds who seek to develop skills in both traditional woodworking traditions and modern techniques. The curriculum encourages students to design and build their own projects while building technical competencies. The school's stated mission is to nurture and sustain the creative spirit of woodworking craftsmanship by providing education and an environment where thinking and doing come together. The program was started to meet requests from local woodworkers seeking structured learning opportunities.
