About GLW
GLW, formerly Great Lakes Woodworking, was founded in 1984 in Detroit, Michigan, when carpenters Mike Mancinelli and Paul LaCroix left their separate jobs to start a business together in a garage. Eventual owner Tony Gatliff later joined the partnership, helping the company expand beyond its humble beginnings. The firm design‑engineers, manufactures, and installs custom commercial fixtures and environments. Its capabilities span custom woodworking in solid wood and veneer, UV welding for glass integration, metal finishing and plating (brushed, etched, paint, powder coating), in‑house plastic laminate pressing, acrylic and plexiglass fabrication, stone integration (marble, quartz, granite), and upholstery and leatherwork. Production remains in Detroit at a facility on Mound Road, though the company does not disclose square footage or headcount. GLW serves retailers, hospitality operators, corporate offices, athletic facilities, and museums across the United States. Project examples include retail fixture rollouts, storefronts and entryways, interior store fixtures, hospitality interiors, corporate office interiors, locker rooms, and custom museum display cases. The company emphasizes long‑term relationships with national retail brands. The founders built the business on enduring relationships and a commitment to treating people well. Engineering was positioned as a core differentiator early on, with the team creating custom tools and processes for each job. Today GLW highlights value engineering, design flexibility, and fixtures engineered for easy installation as key advantages, aiming to deliver a hassle‑free experience from napkin sketch to final install.
