About Independent Power
Independent Power operates from Boulder, Colorado, with roots tracing back to 1996 when a master electrician founded the company in Bozeman, Montana after experiencing off-grid solar at a remote backcountry cabin. The Seelye family now owns and operates the business, maintaining it as a local, family-run enterprise rather than a national franchise. The company designs and installs residential and commercial solar arrays, battery storage systems, heat pumps, EV chargers, and provides general electrical services across Colorado's Front Range — including Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins — and Montana. Customers include homeowners seeking energy independence and businesses looking to lock in electricity costs. Reviews cite installations of solar-plus-storage systems, mini-split heat pumps in multi-level homes, EV chargers in garages, and electrical repairs for new construction. The company coordinates with other trades, such as asbestos abatement crews, when projects require it. The founder's original mission — bringing clean, independent energy to the West — remains the stated differentiator. Leadership emphasizes that family ownership gives them a direct stake in each customer's outcome, distinguishing them from larger chains. The team describes itself as highly trained and focused on the impact of small changes.
