About J M Smucker Co
The Jif® peanut butter brand, owned by J.M. Smucker Co., has been headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky since its national launch in 1958. The brand debuted with creamy-smooth and crunchy varieties, establishing a presence that has grown over more than six decades. The company produces a range of peanut butter products including creamy, extra crunchy, natural, reduced-fat, low-sodium (Simply Jif®), and chocolate-flavored spreads, as well as portable formats such as Jif To-Go® cups and squeezable pouches. Manufacturing innovations have included a switch from glass to shatterproof, recyclable plastic jars in 1986 and the adoption of molasses as a sweetener in 1971. The brand has also engaged in partnerships with organizations such as The Peanut Institute (since 1996), the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (since 2003), and served as a sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The brand emphasizes simplified ingredients and taste, promoting 'fewer ingredients' and meeting the FDA standard of 90% peanuts for peanut butter. Its differentiation stems from continuous product innovation—such as the no-utensil squeeze pouch introduced in 2020—and marketing campaigns like the long-running 'Choosy Mothers Choose Jif' slogan.
