Koha Foods is based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 1972 by Heng Nam Kim (known as Paul Kim) and his wife Hee Young Kim, the company began as a small grocery operation called Kings Market and Sunny Mart before establishing Koha Foods—its name a blend of Korea and Hawaii. Today Koha Foods operates a 2.5-acre, 90,000-square-foot facility in Honolulu’s industrial center on Puuhale Road, equipped with dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage, multiple loading docks, and a delivery fleet. The company imports over 2,500 Asian food products—including meats, seafood, noodles, snacks, and packaging—and manufactures its own signature Korean side dishes such as kimchi using authentic recipes. Its facility also includes USDA-inspected meat cutting and processing as well as sous vide capabilities. Koha Foods serves restaurants, supermarkets, grocery stores, foodservice operators, and military customers across Oahu. Long-standing partnerships include distribution of Binggrae’s Melona ice cream bars since 1995 and, more recently, beverages such as C4, Lemon Perfect, and Electrolit. The company also supplies individual consumers through retail channels. The founders’ original vision was to represent their Korean cultural heritage in Hawaii by providing authentic, high-quality Asian food products. Koha Foods emphasizes creating opportunities for customers, partners, employees, and the local community, a mission reflected in initiatives like Koha Cares, which supported restaurant partners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
