About Lovesac
Lovesac is headquartered in Cranston, Rhode Island. The company traces its origins to 1995 when founder Shawn Nelson built the first foam-filled "Lovesac" in his parents' Utah basement. Nelson formally incorporated the business in 1998, joined by neighbor Dave Underwood as business partner. The company went public on Nasdaq in 2018. Lovesac designs and manufactures modular furniture systems, primarily the Sactionals line of reconfigurable, machine-washable sectionals and the original Sac bean bags. Since 2019, all upholstery fabric for Sac and Sactionals inserts has been produced from 100% repurposed plastic bottles through a partnership with Repreve; the company reports over 180 million bottles diverted from the waste stream since 2018. In 2021, Lovesac introduced StealthTech, an embedded surround-sound system integrated into the sectional platform. As of 2014, the company operated 59 company-owned retail showrooms across the United States, supporting a direct-to-consumer model. Early wholesale customers included a national teen apparel retailer that ordered 12,000 Sacs in 2001. The products have also been adopted by Silicon Valley offices, movie theater chains for front-row seating, and celebrity owners for a 25th-anniversary campaign in 2023. Lovesac's stated mission is to inspire people to buy less by creating products that last longer, adapt, and evolve—a philosophy it calls "Designed For Life." The emphasis on modularity, recycled materials, and integrated technology is intended to extend product lifespans and reduce waste.
