About Mass Renewables
Mass Renewables is based in Bellingham, Massachusetts, and was founded in 2009 by Mike Kelley and Jeff Herman. The two co-owners — whose wives are sisters — run the company as a family business. Kelley, a lifelong Massachusetts resident, entered the solar industry in 2009 and holds NABCEP PV Installer certification. Herman brought three decades of construction experience, spanning residential remodeling to large-scale commercial projects, and serves as project manager. The firm designs and installs residential and commercial photovoltaic systems, including AllEarth Renewables dual-axis trackers and Tesla Powerwall battery storage. It also offers financing options (purchase or lease), 24/7 system monitoring, proactive service dispatch, and full maintenance coverage. The installation crew comprises NABCEP-certified and OSHA-certified professionals, master electricians, and licensed builders. Since opening in 2009, the company has served customers across Massachusetts. Mass Renewables works with homeowners seeking to reduce electric bills and businesses aiming to meet sustainability targets. Reference clients include residential customers such as Jonathan DeKock, who added Powerwalls to an existing array, and commercial accounts that use tracker systems to maximize production. The company emphasizes local expertise in Massachusetts incentives, including the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard. The founders frame the business around energy independence and carbon reduction. Kelley was drawn to solar because the technology, incentives, and a pollution-free energy source already exist. Herman’s goal is to adapt the technology so the company outlives government incentives and continues serving the region for decades. A production guarantee — “Energy Guaranteed or we pay you” — underscores the performance commitment.
