MP Components Inc. traces its roots to the fall of 1973, when Otto Schlatter and Larry Wiersma founded Model Pattern Company Inc. in Byron Center, Michigan. The shop began as a model and pattern operation, handcrafting prototypes for local manufacturers. In January 1996, the company was renamed MP Components to reflect its expanding capabilities. The company designs and builds a range of tooling, including checking fixtures (from simple to complex automated units), models and foundry patterns, aluminum vacuum molds, blow molds, foam and compression molds, match-metal trim dies, and special machinery. It also provides computer-aided design (CAD) services, CMM inspection, and CNC machining. Operations span a 28,000-square-foot plant in Michigan and a 10,000-square-foot facility in Tennessee, equipped with current-generation machining and measurement technology. MP Components serves manufacturers in the automotive, furniture, appliance, aerospace, and medical industries. Its customer base extends across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the two Midwestern locations positioned for broad geographic coverage. The founders' original mission — to deliver handcrafted quality models and prototypes — continues to shape the company's approach.
