Outokumpu Calvert operates a fully integrated stainless steel mill in Calvert, Alabama. The facility is owned by Outokumpu Stainless USA, LLC, a subsidiary of the global Outokumpu group. While the mill draws on more than a century of stainless steel expertise dating to the invention of the material, the Calvert site itself was developed as a state-of-the-art production hub for the Americas market. The mill performs all primary steelmaking steps on site – melting, casting, hot rolling, annealing and pickling, and cold rolling – along with finishing lines that provide polishing, slitting, and cut-to-length services. It produces hot‑rolled and cold‑rolled coil, strip, sheet, and plate across four product families: Moda (ferritic grades for mildly corrosive environments), Core (austenitic and ferritic grades for medium corrosion), Supra (grades for highly corrosive environments), and Forta (high‑strength grades enabling weight reduction). A coil service center network supports tailored finishing and logistics. The mill serves automotive and transportation (exhaust systems, chassis components, decorative trim), chemical and petrochemical processing (sour‑gas components, high‑temperature equipment), food and beverage, tank manufacturing, infrastructure (bridge structures, floodgates, rebar), machine building, energy, pulp and paper, and tube manufacturing. Specific applications include rocket engine parts, sugar‑industry equipment, sinks and deep‑drawn products, and structural components for bridges. Outokumpu positions Calvert as the most technically advanced stainless steel mill in the Americas, emphasizing its fully integrated flow, progressive steelmaking technology, and industry‑technical support. The addition of ferritic grades expands the portfolio for U.S. manufacturing, and the facility’s operational excellence was recognized with a 2018 Steel Excellence Award from American Metal Market.
