About Period Millworks The Woodwright Shop
The Woodwright Shop operates from Covington, Louisiana, where husband-and-wife team Tom and Leah Edmonds have led the business for over two decades. The Edmonds built the shop around a shared dedication to architectural millwork, growing a team of designers and craftsmen that now includes ten members. The shop produces historic reproduction and custom architectural millwork for both restoration projects and new construction. Its capabilities include hand-turned newel posts, balusters, and columns up to 14 feet long, custom handrail fittings such as tangent curves, and exact moulding replication from customer-supplied samples. All turnings are done by hand, and the team works from photographs or original designs to create one-off pieces. Clients range from public institutions to hospitality and residential owners. The portfolio lists work at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion, the Historic Cabildo, Le Petit Théâtre, the Left Pontalba, Hotel Peter & Paul, the French Market Inn, the Frenchmen Hotel, and numerous other historic properties across New Orleans. The Edmonds emphasize constant communication throughout each project and a willingness to become an extension of the client's team. They position the shop as a partner that can translate a photo or a fragment of original moulding into a finished component, with a focus on durability and detail.
