About Saw Logs To Lumber
Saw Logs to Lumber operates from a shop in St. Charles, Missouri, along Highway 94 in the area known as Boschertown. The business was founded in 1994 by Wayne, a Vietnam War veteran who had previously worked as a technical representative at Boeing. The company runs two sawmills on site, offering custom sawmilling services for both its own inventory and customer-supplied logs. It maintains a stock of over 50,000 board feet of live-edge slabs and more than 800 logs, all sourced from Missouri-native species such as walnut, cherry, oak, and sassafras. In addition to milling, the shop produces custom woodworking items including tables, benches, cutting boards, bartops, paddles, mantel pieces, and swinging benches, and sells hardwood lumber to contractors, builders, and DIY enthusiasts. Customers range from professional contractors and builders seeking sustainable Missouri hardwood for construction and renovation projects to individual woodworkers and hobbyists looking for unique slabs or custom fabrication. The shop also collaborates with clients who bring their own logs for milling, turning personal timber into finished pieces. Wayne describes himself as a "Tree Whisperer," emphasizing a philosophy of letting the wood's natural character guide each cut. The venture began with handmade boats and canoes, expanded into paddle making after a local canoe race, and grew into a full-time operation built on highlighting the art inherent in each log.
