About SENTIENT Furniture & Design Gallery
SENTIENT Furniture & Design Gallery was founded in 2012 by Nersi Nasseri and Ali Yavari in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The studio occupies a 25,000-square-foot workshop that has housed craft and creative work for over three decades. Nasseri serves as president and creative director, while Yavari is CEO. The company designs and fabricates custom furniture for residential, hospitality, and commercial projects. All processes—design, woodworking, metal fabrication, finishing, and upholstery—are performed in-house by a team of 25–30 craftspeople. The workshop can produce a single bespoke piece or a full furniture program for a 200-room hotel. Clients include luxury hotels such as Edition Hotel and Four Seasons, airlines like British Airways, retail brands including Cartier and Porsche, as well as private residences. The firm works closely with architects and interior designers through a dedicated trade program offering priority scheduling and trade pricing. SENTIENT emphasizes handmade construction using American hardwoods—walnut, oak, maple, cherry, ash—plus teak and ipe for outdoor use. Each piece bears a brass signature mark, and the company highlights sustainability through repairable, refinishable furniture. The studio has earned Best Furniture and Best Booth awards at ICFF and has exhibited in Dubai, Paris, Miami, and London.
