About Service Electric Cable TV & Communications - Bethlehem HQ
Service Electric Cable TV & Communications traces its roots to 1948 in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, where John Walson Sr. (born John Walsonavich) invented cable television to bring broadcast signals to his appliance-store customers in the mountains. The company moved its headquarters to 2200 Avenue A in Bethlehem in 2014 and remains a third-generation, family-owned business now led by John M. Walson, grandson of the founder. The company operates as a regional telecommunications provider delivering broadband internet (up to Gig+ speeds with eero whole-home WiFi), cable television with hundreds of channels including local sports networks such as the Service Electric Network (SEN) and SEN+ streaming app, and voice services. It also runs a dedicated business division — Service Electric Business — supplying internet, phone, and TV to small, medium, and enterprise customers with a promise of free local, same-day service calls. Service territory spans the Lehigh Valley, Hunterdon County (NJ), and Wilkes-Barre (PA). Customers include residential subscribers and businesses across northeastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. Partnerships with PenTeleData and Alianza extend the portfolio to hosted voice and advanced broadband solutions. The Walson family emphasizes community involvement and local ownership as differentiators: the company was the first in the nation to carry HBO (1972), a founding partner of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Phantoms, and operates the hyper-local Service Electric Network covering high school and collegiate sports, Musikfest, and regional news.
