About SMW Designs
SMW Designs operates from Billings, Montana, where it was founded in 2018 by Keith Wetmore, known to friends as Sonny, and his wife Melissa. The business began after Wetmore, a former delivery driver, discovered a passion for finish work while building his own kitchen cabinets. His first major commission came shortly after: 14 restaurant tables that launched the shop into full-time production. The woodshop provides a full range of custom woodworking services, including kitchen cabinets, butcher block countertops, tables, desks, mantles, wet bars, fireplace surrounds, built-in organizers, bathroom vanities, and exterior projects such as shed repairs, decks, and patios. It also produces smaller retail items like cutting boards and cribbage boards through an online store. Every project is custom designed, built, delivered, and installed by the shop. The company serves residential homeowners throughout Billings and surrounding areas, as well as commercial clients such as restaurants needing custom tables. Past projects include a walnut freestanding shelf for a private residence, butcher block countertops shipped to Idaho, and custom plaques for belt-buckle displays. The shop also supports local institutions, having performed repairs at Burlington Ball Park. Wetmore emphasizes a hands-on, collaborative approach, offering free estimates and working directly with clients to design unique hardwood solutions. The business highlights its personal customer service, inclusive project management from design through installation, and community involvement as key differentiators.
