About Solid State Logic
Solid State Logic was founded in 1969 by Colin Sanders CBE in the village of Stonesfield, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The company began by building switching systems for pipe organs before Sanders established Acorn Studios and produced the first SSL console, the A Series, in 1976. The business moved its headquarters to Begbroke Manor in 1986, adding a 4,000 m² manufacturing facility that opened in 1988 and remains the UK headquarters today. A U.S. office is maintained in New York, New York. The company designs and manufactures analogue and digital audio consoles, audio interfaces, DAW controllers, analogue outboard processors, and software plug‑ins for music production, live sound, and broadcast. Key product lines include the System T broadcast platform (S500, S400, S300), the L‑Series live sound consoles (L650, L550 Plus, L450), the Odyssey and Oracle studio consoles, the ORIGIN series, and the SSL 12/18 audio interfaces. SSL serves music recording studios, live sound engineers, broadcast facilities, post‑production houses, educational institutions, and installed‑sound venues. Notable installations include Spiritland’s live mix facility in London, Shoreline College’s teaching studio in Seattle, and DVLP Academy’s training center. The company also supports OB and sports production, podcast and webcast workflows, and cloud‑based virtualised production. SSL’s differentiation stems from a history of console innovation: the SL 4000 E Series (1979) introduced motorised fader automation (Ultimation) and the SuperAnalogue™ signal path; the 2000s brought hybrid consoles (AWS, Duality) that merged analogue summing with DAW control; and the System T platform pioneered native ST 2110 IP audio routing with automated NMOS discovery. The Odyssey console adds full analogue processing with console‑wide Instant Recall.
