About Sustainable Island Products
Sustainable Island Products is a family-owned wholesale distributor headquartered in Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaii. The business is co-owned by John Elkjer, who serves as CEO, and Julie Elkjer, president, and operates as a family-run enterprise serving the entire Hawaiian chain. From five warehouses spread across the state, the company supplies compostable packaging, glass containers, and post-consumer paper products to food-service businesses of every scale. Statewide delivery logistics allow it to reach customers on Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai. The client base includes large resorts, grocery chains, neighborhood cafés, restaurants, and food trucks. A dedicated sales team — with representatives assigned to Hawaii Island, Maui County, and Oahu/Kauai — provides a consultative approach to product selection. Leadership describes the mission as building partnerships rather than transactional vendor relationships, focusing on reliable service and thoughtful sourcing to support a more sustainable future for Hawaii’s communities. The company’s focus on practical alternatives to single-use plastics aligns with its goal of reducing environmental impact across the islands.
