About Tone's Spices
Tone's Spices operates from Ankeny, Iowa, where the company was founded in 1873 by brothers Jehiel and Isaac Tone. What began as a spice and coffee venture grew into what the brand describes as the oldest spice company in the United States, remaining under the stewardship of the Tone family for generations. The company manufactures a wide range of spices and seasoning blends — including garlic pepper, Cajun, Italian, lemon pepper, and taco blends — at a facility it characterizes as one of the largest spice production plants in the world. In 1888, the Tone brothers introduced individual pre-ground spice packaging, a shift that moved the industry away from bulk barrels and toward the consumer-ready format common today. The Tone family's original values — preserving essential oils, ensuring purity, and maximizing flavor — are cited as the continuing foundation for the business. The company frames its scale and heritage as a means to deliver freshness and consistency that "the whole family will love."
