About Urschel Laboratories Inc
Urschel Laboratories was founded in 1910 in Valparaiso, Indiana, by William E. Urschel, who invented the Gooseberry Snipper to automate a labor-intensive hand process. The company relocated to Chesterton, Indiana, and remained a privately held family business for four generations until March 3, 2016, when the Urschel family sold the company to its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), making it 100 percent employee-owned. Patrick Urschel serves as CEO. The company designs and manufactures industrial food cutting machines, including dicers, slicers, shredders, and milling equipment. Its product line performs slicing, dicing, strip cutting, shredding, granulating, milling, and pureeing for high-volume food processors. Current models include the Little Gem Aspire™ Dicer, M VersaPro® Dicer, DiversaCut 2110A® Dicer, Sprint 2® Dicer, and several Affinity® series dicers. Urschel also distributes KRONEN commercial processing systems in the U.S., Mexico, Pakistan, China, Italy, and across Asia. Urschel serves the food processing and allied industries, supplying equipment to processors of fruits, vegetables, potatoes, meat, cheese, baked goods, nut products, and pet food. The company reports a presence in more than 130 countries. Urschel attributes its differentiation to its in-house Innovation & Development team, which develops patented cutting technologies through extensive R&D, and to its employee-ownership culture, which the company says aligns every team member with long-term customer success.
