About Vaughan-Bassett Furniture
Vaughan-Bassett Furniture has operated from Galax, Virginia, since its founding in 1919 by B.C. Vaughan and J.D. Bassett, Sr. What began as a small regional furniture company grew into the largest manufacturer of wooden adult bedroom furniture in the United States, remaining under the leadership of the Bassett family with John D. Bassett III serving as chairman. The company employs more than 500 skilled artisans at its Galax factory, where they produce bedroom collections — including Dovetail, Tide & Timber, Cool Rustic, Bonanza, Pure Maple, and Maple Road — using wood solids and veneers such as oak, maple, cherry, ash, poplar, birch, beech, and pine. Modern manufacturing technology complements traditional craftsmanship, and the firm reports that 99 percent of its materials are sourced domestically. Vaughan-Bassett sells through a dealer network to residential customers across the country. Its furniture is designed for real homes, meeting federal stability requirements under 16 CFR Part 1261 (ASTM F2057) for clothing storage units, and the company is a member of the American Home Furnishings Alliance. The company's differentiation rests on a deliberate choice to keep production in America when much of the industry moved overseas. That commitment is documented in the bestselling book Factory Man. Vaughan-Bassett also operates a One for One sustainability program that has contributed more than six million tree seedlings to the Virginia Department of Forestry, and it sources 99 percent of its lumber within 500 miles of its factories.
