About Whaling City Solar
Whaling City Solar is a residential and small-commercial solar installation company based in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Founded in 2020, the company was started to create a better customer experience for purchasing solar equipment, moving away from high-pressure sales tactics toward tailored system design for each home and owner. The company designs and installs photovoltaic systems for homes and small businesses across southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Its five-step process covers site assessment and financial analysis, in-house permitting and interconnection management (including Eversource and municipal approvals), single-day installation by crews split between roof-mounted racking and electrical work, post-installation inspections, and system commissioning with monitoring portal access. The team includes engineers, project managers, foremen, and a master electrician; specific hardware deployed includes REC, Solaria, and QCell modules, Enphase IQ8+ microinverters or SolarEdge string inverters, and Enphase Encharge, FranklinWH, or SPAN battery storage. Whaling City Solar serves residential homeowners and small commercial property owners in communities such as Mattapoisett, New Bedford, and Westport. The company emphasizes local presence—its staff live and work in the service area, giving them familiarity with regional weather, electrical inspectors, and lending institutions. The founders aimed to replace door-knocking and cold-call sales with transparent, straightforward service: no sales commissions, no call centers, quotes delivered within 24 hours of a site visit, and all permitting handled internally. They position themselves as a local alternative that tailors each array to the specific property and owner.
