About Alcan Electric & Engineering, Inc

Alcan Electric & Engineering, Inc. was founded in 1971 in Anchorage, Alaska. The company is Alaskan-owned and operated, and has grown from a traditional electrical contractor into a full-service electrical, communications, security, and audio-visual technology integrator. It now employs over 200 professionals across offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Wasilla, serving the entire state. The firm delivers commercial electrical construction services including power distribution, lighting, backup power, high-voltage, and design & engineering. It also integrates low-voltage systems such as building automation, IP video surveillance (as Alaska's Milestone video pioneer), access control, structured cabling (BICSI-certified copper and fiber, and the state's only Corning preferred installer), unified communications, and audio-visual solutions. Additional offerings include turn-key commercial solar, EV charging infrastructure, and electrical maintenance programs aligned with the 2023 NFPA 70B standard. With a workforce of more than 200 and three regional offices, Alcan handles large, complex projects across Alaska. Alcan serves healthcare, aviation, corrections, defense, and North Slope industrial clients statewide. Notable projects include a 15-year partnership with Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage encompassing the 82,000-square-foot Tower M, electrical work for the 16-bay F-35 hangars at Eielson Air Force Base, and advanced controls for the Anchorage Fish Hatchery. The company also works with commercial and energy-efficient lighting projects across the state. The company emphasizes its Alaskan ownership and deep local knowledge of conditions, codes, and logistics as a key differentiator. It highlights the scale of its workforce and its NECA and IBEW Local 1547 affiliations, which provide trained, certified craftspeople and a deep labor pool. Alcan also promotes its integrated approach — combining electrical and low-voltage technology under one roof — and a formal safety program called "Safety Zone" that goes beyond compliance with weekly project-specific safety meetings.
