About Automotive Supply Center
Automotive Supply Center (ASC) has operated in Hilo, Hawaii, since 1955 when brothers Kazuichi and Hayato Okino opened a small auto parts shop on Piopio Street with three full-time and two part-time employees. A tsunami destroyed the original location on May 1, 1960, prompting a move to the Kanoelehua Industrial Park area the following year. The business relocated again in 1996 to its current address at 411 E Kawili St., where it now runs three warehouses. The company stocks and sells new and rebuilt automotive parts, supplies, paint, and accessories for domestic and imported cars, trucks, and high-performance vehicles. Its inventory spans auto motor parts, electrical components, air conditioning parts, batteries, detailing products, auto body supplies, fluids, and tools. Today, Peter Okino and his son Darin Okino manage a staff of over 35 employees, many recruited from Hawaii Community College’s auto body and repair programs, with some technicians boasting over 30 years of experience. The shop carries parts for major brands such as Honda, Ford, and Toyota, and supports both foreign and domestic models. The Okino family attributes the company’s longevity to its knowledgeable staff and deep local ties, which enable a wide inventory selection and competitive pricing. The business was founded to meet the community’s need for reliable automotive parts and has adapted through natural disasters and growth while remaining locally based.
