About BlueSky Energy Hawaii
BlueSky Energy Hawaii was founded in 2014 by solar specialist Josh Mason in Keaau, on the Big Island of Hawaii. The company began with a mission to offer an alternative to high-pressure sales models, focusing instead on transparent design, fair pricing, and honest guidance for local homeowners, businesses, and nonprofits. The firm provides end-to-end solar services including system design, site assessment, financial modeling, engineering, permitting, installation, and ongoing maintenance. Its portfolio spans residential rooftops, commercial arrays, off-grid and hybrid setups, and battery storage integration. Using in-house software for design and project management, the team — led by Mason as senior project manager alongside a project manager, coordinator, drafter, administrator, and dedicated installation crews — has completed more than 450 projects across over 500 locations on the Big Island. BlueSky serves primarily residential customers, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations on Hawaii Island. The company says it differentiates itself by eliminating commissioned salespeople, building proprietary design tools that avoid generic sales-oriented platforms, and keeping procurement and partnerships local. Its 72 percent referral rate and over $1 million in annual customer energy savings are cited as outcomes of that approach.
