About Champion Petfoods USA

Champion Petfoods USA, headquartered in Auburn, Kentucky, traces its origins to 1985 when the company was founded in a small town in Alberta, Canada. The business began with a singular focus on crafting premium pet food and has since expanded to serve pet owners in more than 90 countries worldwide. The company manufactures two primary brands, ORIJEN and ACANA, for dogs and cats. Its process centers on sourcing WholePrey animal ingredients — meat, poultry, and fish — from a curated supplier network, which are then formulated by Ph.D.-level nutrition experts and veterinarians and produced in what the company describes as state-of-the-art kitchens. ORIJEN recipes contain up to 90 percent animal ingredients, while ACANA balances protein-rich animal ingredients with whole fruits and vegetables. Champion serves the premium pet food industry globally, with a presence across three major geographic regions. Its customer base includes independent and neighborhood pet retailers, supported through a founding sponsorship of IndiePet, as well as direct consumer sales. The company also collaborates with the University of Guelph on pet nutrition science. The company states that its exclusive focus on premium pet food allows it to perfect recipes and innovate new products, emphasizing that it never adds wheat, corn, or soy in its kitchens. Its stated mission is to provide peak nutrition, optimal nourishment, and ultimate flavor so pet lovers can feel confident feeding their dogs and cats.
