The cooperative delivers voice, video, and data services across 19 rural communities and the Dickinson area, operating a 100% fiber-to-the-home network in its cooperative exchanges and a hybrid fiber-coax system in Dickinson. Its wholly owned subsidiaries provide competitive local exchange (CLEC) service, internet access, and cable television. Consolidated has invested millions of dollars in network infrastructure since its founding. Customers include residential subscribers in communities such as Amidon, Dodge, Dunn Center, and Bowman; businesses in Dickinson, Belfield, and Gladstone; and institutions like Dickinson State University, which was the cooperative’s first CLEC customer. The cooperative was originally formed by farmers, ranchers, and local residents who banded together to obtain telephone service that commercial providers deemed unprofitable to offer. The member-owned structure means a locally elected board of directors governs operations, and revenues above operating expenses are returned to members as capital credits based on usage. Consolidated’s motto, “Reach the World from Here,” reflects its mission to bring urban-level telecommunications to rural areas at comparable cost, driven by a commitment to honesty, integrity, and community service rather than profit.
