About EcoGen America
EcoGen America is based in Camden, Delaware, and was founded in 2016 by Trevor Guilday to connect homeowners with local solar installers. The company expanded nationwide in 2022 to cover all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and rebuilt its platform in 2025 with a homeowner-first brand and stricter verification frameworks. Chief Executive Officer Dean Mahmoud, who has worked in residential solar since 2021, leads the business alongside Guilday, who maintains the company's Solar Cost Index. The firm operates an independent solar education platform that publishes state-level cost benchmarks, incentive explanations, and savings calculators. Its proprietary EcoGen Solar Database combines government and laboratory data — including benchmarks from the Department of Energy's National Laboratory of the Rockies, wage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and electricity-use figures from the Energy Information Administration — with a calibrated cost model and marketplace quote data. As of September 2026, the platform listed six verified installer partners and had processed more than 25,000 quote requests. EcoGen serves residential homeowners across the United States who are evaluating solar installations. The service is free to users; the company earns referral fees from partner installers but states that compensation does not influence editorial content. Installers that pass three published checks — an active state license, documented installations in the state, and a workmanship warranty covering roof penetrations — receive an EcoGen Verified Installer badge. The platform was created to address a transparency gap in the solar industry, where homeowners faced high-pressure sales tactics without reliable data. The company emphasizes editorial independence, public data sourcing, and partner accountability through complaint review and TCPA compliance agreements.
