About Furniture Joint
The Furniture Joint operates from Salt Lake City, Utah, where founder Chad builds custom furniture by hand. A self-described family man with roots in self-reliance, he started the business to create unique, heirloom-quality pieces rather than pursue high-volume sales. The shop produces handcrafted wooden furniture using traditional joinery methods that maintain the natural integrity of each piece. Chad works primarily with locally sourced wood when possible, focusing on mid-century modern designs while accepting commissions in other styles. Each project begins with a client consultation and progresses through detailed design, with shop visits encouraged throughout the build. The business serves residential customers seeking custom furnishings such as dining tables, rocking chairs, and porch swings—pieces intended to become part of family life rather than disposable decor. Clients engage directly with the maker from concept through completion. Chad founded The Furniture Joint to counter the trend of cheap, mass-produced furniture that lasts only a single generation. He emphasizes that furniture should be cherished, not replaced, and that appreciation comes from understanding how a piece is made.
