About Nomad Furniture
Nomad Furniture operates from Farr West, Utah, where the Mitchell family relocated the business in 2019 after purchasing it from Albuquerque bed maker Dave Cady. Cady had built the brand over more than 30 years in New Mexico before retiring. Connor Mitchell, joined by his parents Ken and Ana, trained with Cady and moved the operation to northern Utah, establishing a family-owned shop where every member contributes. The company handcrafts platform beds and nightstands from solid North American hardwoods — oak, maple, and other species — using zero-VOC finishes such as Daddy Van’s all-natural hemp oil and Rubio products. Each piece is designed and built in their Utah workshop, featuring upgraded premium rails, slats, and a center leg for added strength. No veneers, particleboard, or upcycled woods are used. Nomad Furniture sells directly to residential customers seeking durable, non-toxic bedroom furniture. Reviews highlight buyers who appreciate the solid construction, easy assembly, and healthy finishes, with one customer noting the bed handled a heavy latex mattress without issue. The company ships free anywhere in the continental United States. After a devastating shop fire in June 2024 destroyed all equipment and materials, the Mitchells rebuilt with the help of son-in-law Jake, an engineer. The recovery led to refined designs and a renewed commitment to zero-VOC materials, positioning the company around resilience, American craftsmanship, and a healthier home environment.
