About L Sweet Lumber Company Inc.
L. Sweet Lumber Company Inc. has operated from Providence, Rhode Island since 1885, when civil engineer Leprilete Sweet founded L. Sweet & Company in the city's Olneyville section. Sweet soon purchased a wooden frame building from the Church of the Messiah, moved it to Harris Avenue for railroad access, and established the storefront that remains in use today. Now in its fifth generation, the business remains family‑owned and locally operated. The company stocks a broad range of building materials: framing and finish lumber sourced from domestic and international forests, an extensive inventory of historical moulding profiles specific to the Providence area, interior and exterior doors, windows, skylights, hardwood flooring, TimberTech/Azek composite decking and railing, cedar shingles and clapboard siding, and general building supplies. A showroom displays samples and literature, and the staff provides blade sharpening, key cutting, and lock keying services. A fleet of trucks handles delivery across Southern New England. L. Sweet Lumber serves contractors, homeowners, and historical‑restoration projects throughout Southern New England. The sales team offers personalized estimates, site visits, and product consultation, while the back office manages trade‑credit accounts and invoicing. The company also runs a contractor‑referral network for homeowners and supplies evaluated leads to its trade customers. The firm emphasizes that its 140‑year commitment to service, selection, quality, and competitive pricing drives its approach.
