About Larson Cable Trailers, Inc
Larson Cable Trailers, Inc. is based in Huron, South Dakota. Founded in 2000 by Rick Larson, the company began as an offshoot of his underground utilities business, Larson Digging Inc. Unable to find a trailer that could lift cable reels, “figure 8,” and rewind cable efficiently, Larson built his own patented cable fiber installation trailer. The company manufactures patented cable fiber installation trailers designed to handle reel lifting, figure‑8 layout, and rewinding in a single unit. Its product line includes the original Larson Cable Trailer and, since 2024, the Drive Trailers series. The division also runs an online parts store supplying trailer components, manuals, and warranty service. Primary customers are public and private contractors, rural telephone cooperatives, electric cooperatives, and city municipalities involved in fiber‑optic and power infrastructure projects. The trailers are used for burying cable, fiber‑optic installation, and electrical line construction across the United States. The business was started to solve a real‑world problem Larson faced daily: the need for a versatile, durable trailer that could increase crew efficiency. The patented design aims to let crews lay more cable in less time by combining multiple functions into one piece of equipment.
