Lauck Manufacturing was founded in 1882 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by John Lauck as a tin fabrication and slate roofing shop. The business remained in the Lauck family for more than a century until 1986, when Charles B. (Bunny) Lauck sold it to Daniel A. Slightom, a former summer employee and veteran of General Motors’ Allison Transmission division. The company provides sheet metal fabrication services including laser cutting, CNC press brake forming, tube bending, rolling, and both manual and robotic welding. Its equipment roster lists three Mazak lasers, two Cincinnati 4‑axis 90‑ton press brakes, Diacro tube benders, cylinder rolls, an angle iron roller, two Motoman robotic welding cells, multiple Miller and Lincoln MIG/TIG welders, and Taylor spot welders. The shop serves prototype and production runs, notably producing more than 4,000 basketball systems over a nine‑year period for its American Eagle brand and a private‑label customer. The company also works with OEMs and private‑label buyers across the Midwest and beyond. Leadership emphasizes that skilled personnel—roughly 40 percent of the workforce are cross‑trained welders—and continuous technology investment, such as the addition of robotic welding in 1993 and CNC forming in 1995, are the foundation of its long‑term competitiveness.
