Lovejoy Rustic Furniture

About Lovejoy Rustic Furniture

Lovejoy Rustic Furniture operates from a workshop on Smithfield Road in Oakland, Maine, in the Belgrade Lakes region. The business was founded in 2009 by Eben Lovejoy, who first worked under the name Dry Kye Rustic — a reference to the Maine term for driftwood. Lovejoy’s interest in rustic furniture began in his youth when he built a log cabin with friends and started crafting small tables from found wood using his father’s tools, selling them to friends and family. The company produces custom rustic furniture one piece at a time, ensuring each item is one-of-a-kind. Lovejoy sources antique, reclaimed, and overlooked woods by dismantling homes and barns across central Maine, preserving old-growth material with its natural nail holes, knots, cracks, and bark. The process spans design, construction, and finishing, with an emphasis on simple forms, clean lines, and durable finishes. Output covers bedroom, living room, office, dining room, kitchen, and bath pieces. Lovejoy serves residential customers seeking unique, made-to-fit furniture. The clientele includes discerning buyers who value the story embedded in reclaimed materials and are willing to commission challenging custom projects. There is no indication of commercial or institutional sales channels. Lovejoy has stated that his drive comes from a love of Maine’s logging and agricultural history; he aims to give old wood new life while accenting its imperfections rather than hiding them. The business was started to pursue creative, functional woodworking that pushes the maker’s skills with each project.
