About Meiden America Switchgear, Inc.
Meiden America Switchgear, Inc. is headquartered in Gray Court, South Carolina, near Greenville. The company was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of Meidensha Corporation, a Tokyo-based manufacturer established in 1897. President Yukihiro Takeshita leads the operation, which celebrated its grand opening and first shipment on February 9, 2021. The facility designs, manufactures, tests, and sells high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) at 72.5 kV and 145 kV ratings, along with vacuum interrupters (VIs). Its dead-tank VCBs use dry air as the insulating medium, eliminating the need for SF6 greenhouse gas. The parent company has produced vacuum interrupter bottles since 1967 and introduced the world's first 72.5 kV dry-air insulated VCB in 2002; more than 2,500 of those units have been delivered worldwide, including over 1,000 to North American customers. A 145 kV dry-air VCB followed in late 2021. Primary customers are North American electric power utilities and original equipment manufacturers that integrate VIs into their own switchgear. The company serves the power and energy sector and also lists automotive testing systems among its industries. Meiden America states its mission is to lead the industry by providing high-value products that integrate cutting-edge technology drawn from 125 years of experience. The focus is on helping utilities and OEMs transition away from SF6 dependence toward environmentally conscious solutions.
