About Mid-South Wire Products Inc.

Mid-South Wire Products Inc. was founded in 1967 by John T. Johnson, Sr. in Nashville, Tennessee. The company remains family-owned, now led by John T. Johnson, Jr., and operates a second facility in Scott City, Missouri. Its origins trace to a single “sidewinder” bull-block drawing machine acquired in 1964, which still sits outside the Nashville offices as a reminder of the firm’s humble start. The company manufactures carbon steel wire products including wire rod, bright basic wire, plating-quality wire, nitrogen-wiped galvanized wire (Class 1–4 per ASTM A-641), and welded wire mesh for concrete reinforcement. Production runs on more than 30 wire-drawing machines, supported by a modern pickle room, a high-speed Morgan Koch multi-pass drawing line, a galvanizing line, and an overhead railcar-unloading system. A dedicated tractor-trailer fleet and a private barge operation on the Cumberland River provide direct shipping options. Mid-South Wire serves automotive seating suppliers such as Lear Seigler, Hoover Universal, and Johnson Controls, as well as cable manufacturer Copperweld and shelving producer Lee Rowan (later Rubbermaid). Its customer base spans the automotive, construction, cable, and industrial storage sectors throughout the Southeast and beyond. The firm differentiates itself with a just-in-time delivery model built on in-stock inventory, company-owned trucks, and river barge access, promising on-time delivery for every order. Family values and a “can-do” culture—evident in the rapid recovery after the 1975 Cumberland River flood—underpin its commitment to service and continuous equipment investment.
