About Needham Furniture Makers
Needham Furniture Makers operates from a shared woodworking shop in Needham, Massachusetts. The business was founded in 2022 by Peter Stein after he graduated from the North Bennet Street School’s two-year Furniture Making program. Instead of pursuing a solo career as a fine furniture maker, Stein chose to build a community-focused workspace where woodworkers of all levels could access professional equipment and camaraderie. The company provides three core offerings: woodshop memberships that give members access to a fully equipped facility, custom furniture design and fabrication executed by Stein, and woodworking workshops with private instruction for skill development. The shop serves as both a production space for custom pieces and a learning environment, though specific facility size, headcount, or annual volume are not disclosed. Clients include hobbyist woodworkers seeking shop access, individuals commissioning one-of-a-kind furniture, and students attending hands-on workshops. The business does not publish a formal industry list, but its services naturally align with custom furniture buyers, woodworking education, and the broader maker community in the Greater Boston area. Stein has described the venture as a way to live the principle that “if you do what you love, it’s not work.” The shop was created to surround himself with the furniture-making community that energized him during his training, positioning the space as a haven for anyone passionate about making things from wood.
