Precision Textiles is headquartered in Totowa, New Jersey. The company traces its roots to 1987 when Peter Longo founded Precision Custom Coatings as a supplier of interlinings to apparel distributors and fabric wholesalers. Longo remains chairman. Scott Tesser, now chief executive officer and co-owner, joined the business after the apparel trade moved offshore and built an Asia-based supply model for customers. In 2000 Longo and Tesser bought back the company from a private-equity owner and renamed it Precision Textiles to pursue markets beyond apparel. Today the firm designs, produces and globally distributes fire-retardant nonwovens, laminates, coated fabrics and specialty fibers from a 210,000-square-foot headquarters that houses a state-of-the-art laboratory, factory and warehouse. Four additional U.S. warehouses and three overseas joint-venture warehouses extend its reach. An in-house R&D team operates around the clock to develop and lab-test solutions for bedding, automotive and healthcare applications. Customers include mattress and sleep-product manufacturers, automotive OEMs and tier suppliers, and healthcare product makers. In the automotive sector the company has supplied materials for speaker components, upholstery liners, dashboard and door-panel insulation, and headliners. For bedding it provides a range of glass-free flame-barrier products such as ECOFLEX, IQFit Natural and the GOTS-certified PureLoft wool barrier. The shift into bedding was driven by the 2004 federal open-flame mattress standard. Precision Textiles emphasizes environmentally conscious methods: solar panels at its factory, GOTS-certified organic wool, and a portfolio of recyclable, non-allergenic fibers. Its Precision Cares program donates bedding and furniture to non-profits serving children, veterans and domestic-abuse survivors.
