About Rail Yard Studios - Custom Furniture Designers and Builders
Rail Yard Studios operates from Nashville, Tennessee. The company was founded by industrial designer and entrepreneur Robert Hendrick, who also owned a railroad contracting business. He started the furniture venture to complement the cyclical nature of that business. Ownership is shared among Hendrick, Rob Humphreys, Rick Turner (who joined in 2012), and Jim "Pop" Hendrick. The studio designs and builds custom furniture using reclaimed steel sourced from railroad renovation projects and natural wood. Their product line includes tables, desks, beds, coffee tables, side tables, poker tables, and custom wine cellars for both residential and commercial spaces. They have developed unique methods of historic preservation that reflect a commitment to sustainability and quality. The workshop is led by production manager and master craftsman Ryan Galbreath, who oversees daily operations, pioneers new material techniques, maintains equipment, and emphasizes safety and a reduced environmental footprint. The company serves homeowners, offices, interior designers, and architects. Concrete examples include custom conference rooms, statement coffee tables, and bespoke wine cellars. Rail Yard Studios collaborates with artists, designers, and architects to realize client visions. The founders say the business was driven by a personal commitment to sustainability and quality, developing proprietary historic preservation methods to repurpose authentic railroad materials. They take pride in craftsmanship, passing each piece from their hands to the customer.
