About RVP 1875
RVP 1875 operates in the century‑old Milligan Lumber Grain & Coal building in Jefferson, Iowa. The business was established by Robby Pedersen, a master furniture maker with more than 28 years of experience, who has crafted over 1,300 pieces of historically accurate furniture using only the tools, techniques, and finishes employed in 1875 Iowa. The shop functions as both a working museum and a production facility. Its equipment includes an 1860s foot‑powered lathe, an 1870s hand‑crank ripsaw, and a collection of more than 650 hand planes. The showroom displays over 130 prototype pieces, each tied to a specific historical narrative. In addition to furniture production, RVP 1875 offers woodworking classes, guided tours, and a selective apprenticeship program. The company serves tourists, history enthusiasts, collectors of period furniture, and students of traditional woodcraft. Visitors can purchase finished pieces directly from the showroom, while the educational programs attract hobbyists and aspiring artisans seeking hands‑on instruction in pre‑industrial methods. Pedersen founded the venture out of a passion for preserving Iowa’s material heritage and demonstrating how 19th‑century craftsmanship connects to the state’s history. The operation has been recognized by the Iowa Tourism Office and the Travel Federation of Iowa with awards for Outstanding Tourism Business (2013), Outstanding Retail Experience (2015), and Outstanding Tourism Attractions (2016).
