About Sierra Bags
Sierra Packaging & Converting, based in Reno, Nevada, traces its roots to 1924 when Badger Paper was founded in California producing paper bags and wax paper. The company joined Sigma Q Corporation in 1985, relocated to Sparks, Nevada in 1991 as Sierra Converting Corporation, and adopted its current name in 2004. It is minority-owned and operated. The company manufactures printed flexible packaging for the food and snack industries, offering printed and unprinted laminated films, paper, and foil in one- to three-ply structures. Its in-house capabilities span flexographic printing up to 10 colors on a 59-inch web, solvent-based, solventless, and water-based lamination, wet and dry wax coating, high-speed slitting with laser scoring and perforating, and pouch and bag making on 11 machines. The 170,000-square-foot plant houses eight high-resolution flexo presses from Comexi, Uteco, Windmöller & Hölscher, and Bobst, a full digital pre-press department with in-house plate making, and a quality lab equipped for oxygen transmission rate, gas chromatography, and seal-curve analysis. Customers include producers of frozen foods, dairy, bakery, deli, pet food, and vegetable products such as steamed green beans. Sierra emphasizes that keeping printing, laminating, waxing, and converting under one roof, combined with patented technology and a trained staff, enables fast turnaround without sacrificing quality. Its minority-owned status is also highlighted as part of its identity.
