SMK Packaging was founded in 2011 by Steven Karlsrud in Reno, Nevada. The company controls the full production chain in‑house: blown film extrusion using three‑layer coextrusion and six‑component gravimetric dosing, prepress services including design, trapping, bar coding and plate making, printing on two eight‑color central impression flexographic presses capable of 50‑inch web width, and converting that produces wicketed bags, side‑weld bags, roll stock with vent holes, zippers and handle features. An on‑site laboratory performs OTR, tensile, dart, seal strength, haze, gloss, density and melt‑flow testing on resins, films and finished goods. SMK primarily serves fresh‑produce packers and other food‑contact packaging customers across the western U.S., and is expanding into additional markets that require short lead times and responsive service. Its packaging is designed for vertical and horizontal form‑fill‑seal equipment used in automated and hand‑pack lines.
