About Solar Technology Alabama
Solar Technology Alabama is based in Eva, Alabama. The company was founded in 2008 by Ron Holland, a Mississippi State University electrical engineering graduate who spent 20 years as a power distribution engineer at Southern Company. His concern over grid vulnerability and interest in self‑sufficiency led him to start the business; he later built the Alabama Solar Technology Center and has lived off‑grid since 2011. The firm designs and installs custom off‑grid and stand‑alone solar power systems, including solar water heating, solar water pumping, and battery backup systems. Services cover full installation, system sizing, permitting, plumbing adjustments, commissioning, and a paid consultation offering for system optimization. Operations span from Montgomery to southern Middle Tennessee. Customers are homeowners, cabin owners, and businesses seeking energy independence in North Alabama. Some clients are fully off‑grid, while others keep grid connection but install off‑grid systems for essential loads. The company explicitly does not accept residential grid‑tie projects. The company says its differentiator is firsthand off‑grid living experience since 2011, climate‑specific designs that account for Alabama’s hard freezes, and a focus on energy security through storage rather than grid cooperation. Consultation services aim to educate customers on system limits and capabilities.
