Somic America

About Somic America

Somic America operates from Wytheville, Virginia, with a second facility in Brewer, Maine. The company has served the North American and South American automotive markets for more than 35 years as a subsidiary of Somic Ishikawa, a Japanese component manufacturer founded in 1916 that became a Toyota partner in 1937. The company engineers, designs, and manufactures ball joints for suspension and steering systems, rotary dampers for seat and tailgate applications, steering gear components, and control arm components. Its vertically integrated operations encompass machining, finishing, assembly, and the ability to accommodate rapid design changes. Production volumes exceed one million components per week across both sites. Its customer base spans the North American and South American automotive manufacturing sectors. The company emphasizes a quality culture built on IATF 16949 certification, targeting zero defects and 100% on-time delivery. A Kaizen continuous-improvement program drives daily operations, with 90 percent of improvement initiatives originating from machine operators. Standardized work, robotic inspection, and multi-stage validation underpin its quality system.
